My fear of God is preventing me from accepting Him into my life. So, help?

Look into Liberation Theology in Catholicism; i had a priest growing up who preached acceptance of gay people, for peace, and who said that Judgement Day came when we died and that the Universe was eternal. I think it'd be a mistake to believe that everything in the Bible is literally true, and many of the Old Testament stories could be the leaders of Israel interpreting what they believe God's will to be. The important thing to remember is that in the gospels Jesus never condemns gay people and only preaches love and peace. A lot of the criticisms you mention though are reasons why some people eventually become atheists.
