Does Damon die in Vampire Diaries, The show, and does he die in the book.?

Ok in latest episode, He gets bitten by Tyler, and werewolfs bites are very fatal. I really cants wait till next thursday to find out, Someone please answer me. I love Damon and if he dies i will legit stop watching the show. And i haven't read the last book. Midnight, but i hear people saying he dies, but then he doesn't. Im really confused. Did he die in the book???? please tell me now. cause i feel like if the author killed him off in the book, then what is there to the books anymore. He might as well Make this the last book if he did die. But please tell he didn't and if he did, theres a way for him to come back, as the dangerous, arrogant,strong fast, powerful,merciless BAD Damon we all know and love,
