Can fate be merciless to a person from the beginning to the end of that person's life?

Fate is a thing, things can't control a persons life. God can control peoples lives, however he doesn't choose too. So really nothing is controlling our lives unless we let it. However I can see where you're coming from. The devil mercilessly attacks people, it doesn't matter who you are, he will attack you.He is sick! So maybe he would mercilessly beat someone their whole life. He probably would enjoy that.
